There are different ways of tracking units and cargo. One way is to use RFID tags, using bar code labels etc.

Another way - which we are doing - is using the GPS equipment on the fork lift. Hereby we catch in real time the exact co-ordinate positions of the container or timber package. We do this at specific occasions or status events. For instance when the twist lock is released from the container the actual position is stored in the database for that particular unit. This gives us a number of efficient information to reuse:

• yard planning and allocation of units
• track all movements for a specific fork lift
• track all movements for a specific container or trailer
• track all movements for a specific goods unit
• for statistics and following up indepandent of any fork lift brand
